Porch Swings
Porch swings are basically elaborate furniture pieces, which are designed to give you a
great time outdoors. They are ideal to use for lounging on a warm summer day, as you read a book or enjoy a cold drink. You could also use them
as you spend relaxing times sharing with friends and family. Porch swings are becoming more and more in demand due to the trend of making use of
garden furniture for home decoration. They are a great and almost necessary addition to homes that have a garden or a fair-sized yard. They truly
can add to the beauty of your home’s exterior.
I remember being so excited when we bought our first house and there was a swing out front. We didn't have one at our first home that we
rented, but now we do. Of course, we live in town so our view is of the neighbors homes, but it's so nice to sit out there in the evenings and
relax. I have spent many hours gently swinging with my children. My in-laws have their swing on the back porch and since they live in the country
they have beautiful scenery to watch everyday.
These are usually are just made from metal and wood. The preferred choices for wooden porch swings are
cedar, pine, cypress and alder. Cedar wood is considered the best alternative to be used for these swings, as it is able to give off a very
natural look. It is also able to resist fungi, mold and rot. These are very essential points, particularly when used outdoors, when they are
exposed to sun, rain and other weather elements. Famous kinds of cedar wood more commonly used are the Western Red Cedar and Northern White
Cedar.
Porch swings also vary a lot in the seat's depth and the way that the backrest has been carved out. There are also customized swings, which
are good buys, as you would be able to specify exactly what you want and need. Seat depth is typically 18 to 36 inches, however you can have it
as shallow or as deep as you want. The placement of joints is also another essential point to consider as far as the construction of the porch
swing goes. Porch swings should ideally have joints that have been bolted or screwed together.
Regardless where you place your swing, you would surely be able to effortlessly add a bit of style, as well as a touch of comfort, in your
home. We recently repainted ours to match the exterior trim color of the windows. It's a nice touch and gave it a much needed face lift.
